Girls Cricket

Due to COVID–19, All forms of cricket practice and matches have been postponed until further notice, following the government and England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) guidance. Although we are hoping to have some cricket in 2020 when the lockdown/social distancing is lifted.

Over the past few years, Oxford Cricket Club has been working hard to increase the number of girls playing and enjoying cricket in and around the city.

Girls aged 5–8 take part in All Stars Cricket, which is a series of fun sessions designed to introduce younger children to the sport. There’s more information about it on the All Stars page.

All girls in the under 9 to under 13 age groups (school years 4–8) are encouraged to come along to the youth training sessions on Friday evenings at Jordan Hill Sports Ground, where they will play and train with other girls and boys in their age-group.

However, we appreciate that some girls may not have had the same opportunities as boys of the same age to play and experience cricket, and some may prefer to learn and develop their new skills in a girls-only group. So we run a dedicated girls training session on Tuesday evenings alongside the senior women’s training.

The girls training is run by a female ECB level 2 qualified coach, who is often joined by a member of the women’s squad. Girls who already have enough cricketing experience, and those who develop the necessary skills, will be able to train with the women’s teams if they would like.
