The U9s began their season with a bang at Tiddington. On what seems to have been the first sunny day of the year, Oxford played 3 short matches against Tiddington A and B, and Wolvercote. With a good mix of new players and some more experienced players returning for a second season with the U9s, the team played well all afternoon. Bowling and fielding were particularly good as the team kept all three opponents to low scores. Running and calling need a bit more work, but otherwise Oxford did well not to give away wickets and had a few big hits. The closest match was our second - against Tiddington A - in which a boundary by John off a free hit in the final over proved decisive. The team were rightly very pleased with their performances. They did a great job to keep their energy levels up and maintain their attention on a long, successful afternoon.
Although Tiddington are organising this day, we are in fact playing at Great Haseley Cricket Club, Thame Road, Great Haseley, OX44 7JY. The track leading to Great Haseley CC is uneven so please drive slowly.
We'll be playing 4 short matches of 40 balls per innings (80 ball matches in total). The other teams are Tiddington, Wolvercote, Horspath & Oxford Downs. We should be finished at 4.30pm.
The pavilion will be open with tea and coffee, a cash bar and tuck shop, plus changing facilities and toilets.
The matches for U9s are all soft ball and so there's no need for pads or gloves. There's also no need for any special clothing, just anything that's comfortable for sport, in any colour. Bats can be shared so don't worry if you don't already own one.
