OCC 1s vs Finchampstead CC – 19th May 2018
OXFORD’S DISAPPOINTING START TO SEASON CONTINUES
Oxford’s 1st XI season continues with disappointing lost by 7 wickets at Finchampstead on Saturday.
Captain Jamie Perkin won the toss on a glorious summers day and had no hesitation in electing to bat first on what looked like a rather flat wicket. Oxford got off to a steady start with Tong – Jones and Eltham putting on 50 for the first wicket before the former was bowled sweeping and was soon followed by his opening partner after top edging a delivery to mid wicket. Perkin and Ayub got the innings going but never really managed to dominate the Finch attack and when Ayub fell for 43 wickets continued to fall. A late cameo from Freddie Simon (28) saw Oxford to 220 all out, probably 30 below par.
Oxford got off to a good start with the ball, David Murphy finding the edge of Finchies opener Craig Hodges (14) and Perkin obliged behind the stumps. Oxford struck again soon after and Finch were reeling at 30-2. Unfortunately for Oxford that hope didn’t last very long and the Berkshire side eased home with almost 3 overs to spare following a stand of 154 between captain Dan Lincoln and Greg Smith. Eltham eventually removed Smith with only 30 runs to required but it was too little too late.
The lads will look to kick start their season with a win at home to Henley CC, 2017 HCPCL Champions, next Saturday with the first ball at 11:30.
