Adult/Open Age Teams Selection Policy


Men’s and Women’s 1st XI

The role of the 1st XIs is to offer the highest level of competitive cricket possible for Club Members with the focus on attaining the highest standards of performance, winning as many games as possible throughout the season while promoting a positive and inclusive team spirit.

Men’s 2nd XI

The role of the Men’s 2nd XI is to provide a high standard of competitive cricket with the focus on winning and to enable the most promising juniors and good senior players to force their way into the Men’s 1st XI.

Women’s 2nd XI

The role of the Women’s 2nd XI is to provide competitive cricket at the level most suitable for the development of the team and players. The focus will be on player development both of youth and adult players in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Men’s 3rd XI

The role of the Men’s 3rd XI is the same as the Men’s 2nd XI but with the recognition that priority may be given to new or younger players for player development purposes.

Men’s 4th XI

The Men’s 4th XI will be a squad for the clubs younger promising juniors who are beginning their journey into open age cricket, with senior players acting as mentors to enable progression to the 3rd XI in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Men’s and Women’s teams will be selected by the selection committee who are:
The Director of Men’s or Women’s Cricket and the team captains.

Criteria for selection

  • Ability and recent performance
  • Consistency of attendance at training and matches
  • Specialism for the game ahead (e.g. opening bat, spinner etc)
  • Punctuality
  • Conduct both on and off the pitch
  • Payment of subscriptions and match fees
  • Consistent and timely notification of availability via the club app
  • In the Women’ 2nd XI and Men’s 3rd and 4th XI teams priority may be given to new or younger players for player development purposes
  • Players who make themselves available and drop out during the week before the match, unless with mitigating circumstances, will not be considered over other club members for the following week’s match
